Entry #4 The motivation
Sometimes it’s hard to muster up the motivation to work out. It's hard to work out and go to the gym consistently. Some people don’t work out because they think they don’t have the time and some people just don’t have the motivation. I’ll try to go to the gym at least three times a week, but even I lose motivation time to time to workout and I consider myself as an active person.
I am going to give you some tips how to gain motivation to work out big or small.
Define your ‘why’
You can’t always rely on external factors, such as a vacation, to motivate you. Defining your “why” for exercise will give you a personal or emotional investment in your goals.
Schedule it in your calendar
Decide what type of workout you’ll do, for how long, and where. Then, spend 10 minutes planning your activity for the rest of the week.
Set small goals
When it comes to losing weight, small goals win out every time. Start with daily goals, then weekly goals, monthly goals, and finally, aim to hit your target.
Surround yourself with like-minded people
Let’s face it, losing weight and gaining weight can be challenging. But trying to reduce the number on the scale is almost impossible if you surround yourself with people who have poor eating and exercise habits and vice versa it’s harder to gain weight and muscle if you surround yourself with people that don’t work out. To keep yourself on-track, choose your company wisely and interact with people who have similar goals.
Go beyond the gym
Exercise can happen just about anywhere, anytime. Each time you climb the stairs, do 25 squats. Balance on one leg while brushing your teeth or make calls while walking.
I really liked this entry. Ive started thinking recently that I wanted to get a gym membership so that I can work out more and lose weight. I know its more than that and that diet goes with it but what you said makes more sense and make me want to go and actually change myself for the better. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThis entry really struck me because I used to have an off and on again relationship with exercise and couldn't figure out why. Now, as you've illustrated, it was because when I first started, i was doing it for an external factor of just looking like one of the dudes on TV (Which is how i thought a guy should look due to being exposed to it all of the time). I started exercising again a year and a half ago due to having health issues from my poor choices in eating, lack of exercise and medical history. After a stay in the hospital I decided I needed to make changes. Those changes were for me this time. I do find it hard to keep up with because that motivation isnt as fresh now that it's been a year and a half. Your post inspired me and gave me tips on how to make myself keep going when I don't feel like it on some days. Thank you
